Motorists driving on the M2 in Kent have been warned to expect delays until Christmas because of ongoing roadworks.
Work is currently under way to inspect and repair a sink whole that happened on the same stretch of motorway a few years ago between junctions 5 and 6 for Sittingbourne and Faversham.
The carriageway will also have a closure in both directions on December 15 between 8am and 6pm, and likewise on December 18 and 19.
There will be a diversion in place, taking coastbound traffic off the M2 at junction 5 onto the A249, heading north and onto the A2 in toFaversham, re-joining the main carriageway at junction 7 and the same for London bound traffic.
Highways England has apologised in advance for any disruption created by the work.
A spokesman said: “Our road workers frequently work in situations which are both unpleasant and dangerous and we would kindly ask that you treat them with the respect you would wish to be treated with while they are working in your area.
“If you do have any issues with the work taking place, our road workers will always try to help you if they are able.”
